Secil Group is a Portuguese multinational company founded nearly a century ago, with a core business based on the production and sale of cement, concrete, aggregates, mortars and hydraulic lime with a strong international presence.

It currently operates three cement plants in Portugal (Outão, Maceira and Pataias) and is present abroad in Angola, Tunisia, Lebanon, Cape Verde, Spain, the Netherlands and Brazil.

Through eight cement plants and a presence in eight countries and four continents, Secil Group guarantees an annual cement production capacity of over 9.75 million tons.

Secil Group also includes companies that operate in complementary areas of the circular economy, in the valorization of waste as an energy source.

Semapa, the sole shareholder of Secil, is a holding company listed on Euronext Lisbon, incorporating the PSI, and its majority shareholder is the Queiroz Pereira family, with strong traditions in Portuguese industrial and financial activities.

Portugal

The Secil Group is present in the Portuguese market with the production and sale of cement and various construction materials, including concrete through Secil Betão, aggregates through Secil Agregados and mortars through SecilTek.

With a production capacity in Portugal of around 4 million tons of cement per year, Secil, through its Secil-Outão, Maceira-Liz and Cibra-Pataias plants, supplies more than 35% of the country’s cement needs.

With numerous warehouses and a wide variety of options for handling and controlling the loading of materials, Secil also favours maritime transport from Setúbal, which has become an essential element of cement and clinker exports to over 30 countries.

Tunisia

Société des Ciments de Gabès (SCG) was the first international plant to join the Secil Group in 2000. Located in the southernmost part of Tunisia, the Gabès plant, with access to a port facility, has the southern regions of the country as its main markets.

The Secil group is currently present in Tunisia through SCG, which produces cement and artificial lime, and operates in the ready-mix concrete and precast concrete markets through Sud Béton and Zarzis Béton. SCG has an annual production capacity of 2 million tons of cement.

Lebanon

The Secil Group entered Lebanon in 2002 with the acquisition of a stake in the company Ciments de Sibline (CDS). This unit, located south of Beirut and with a production capacity of 1.2 million tons of cement per year, is the third largest producer of cement and clinker in Lebanon.

In 2007, Secil strengthened its stake in Ciments de Sibline, holding 50.5% of the company’s capital and providing its technical management. The Secil Group is also present in the Lebanese market for ready-mixed concrete and prefabricated products through its subsidiary Soime.

Angola

Secil entered Angola in 2004, with TecnoSecil, a company led by Secil, operating the Angolan cement plant Encime, located in Lobito. Two years later, TecnoSecil was renamed Secil Angola, Investimentos e Participações, SA. It currently holds 51% of Secil Lobito and is active in Angola with a cement grinding plant. The annual cement production capacity is 350 thousand tons .

Cape Verde

Secil Cap Verde was founded in 2005 following the acquisition of the company INTERTRADE, LTD. Currently, Secil is marketing cement on all islands of the archipelago and operates in the aggregates and concrete prefabrication market through the company Inertes de Cabo Verde, located on the island of Santiago.

Brazil

Secil began operating in Brazil in 2011, with a stake in Supremo Cimentos, a company founded in 2003 in Pomerode, Santa Catarina, with an annual production capacity of 400,000 tons. The group also owns several concrete plants in the southern region of Paraná and part of the state of São Paulo.

In 2015, it acquired the entire capital of Supremo Cimento and opened a new cement plant in Adrianópolis, Paraná, Brazil, thus consolidating its internationalization process with an annual production capacity of 1.8 million tons of cement.

This second plant is considered the most modern in Brazil and one of the most advanced in the world in terms of technology, innovation, product quality and sustainability.

Netherlands

As part of its diversification strategy into complementary markets in order to increase its export volumes to Northern Europe, the Secil Group has invested in a maritime terminal located in the port of Terneuzen, in the south of the Netherlands, near the Belgian border.

This facility, with a storage capacity of 25,000 tons , supplied directly by 6,000-tons ships from the quay of the Secil Outão plant in Portugal, makes it easier to reach customers in the Netherlands, Belgium and northern France.

Spain

Considering internationalization as a strategic vector for the sustained growth of its activities on geographically diversified markets, the Secil Group acquired a series of assets in Spain in 2017.

By investing in a cement terminal in Vigo, two quarries and 13 ready-mixed concrete plants in the Spanish regions of Asturias and Galicia, Secil aims to consolidate its presence throughout the Iberian Peninsula. Thus, the Secil Group is now present in the Iberian Peninsula with all of its products.
